Anushka Shetty whose real name is Sweety Shetty was born in Mangalore. When working as a Yoga teacher in Mumbai, she met Telugu director Puri Jagannath who wanted to cast in her in his next movie. Anushka did not even had her portfolio pictures at that time and had only a passport sized photograph that she could give her.
She made here acting debut in the in the 2005 Telugu file "Super" in which she paired against Nagarjuna. After finding stardom in Tollywood, she made her Tamil debut with the 2006 Tamil movie "Rendu" directed by Sundar C.
She considers her height to be her disadvantage when it comes to finding suitable roles in the South Indian film industry. Even though she has acted only in few Tamil films she continues to remain as one of the most sought after actresses in Kollywood.
