Thalaimuraigal (2013)

Thalaimuragal is a Tamil movie by Balu Mahendra, which he is directing nearly 8 years after his 2005 movie Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam.

When veteran Director Balu Mahendra who has won National Award five times in his illustrious career wanted to make a new movie he called upon Director Producer Actor Sasi Kumar who immediately agreed to produce the movie under his banner "Company productions". The movie is taking a contemporary look at human relationships in an Indian family.  An excited Balu Mahendra announced Thalaimuraigal as Tamil film industry's answer to Iranian and Korean movies that usually amazes everyone with their realistic approach to film making and stories that are close to human hearts.
 
After having romanced with negatives throughout his career, this is the first time Balu Mahendra is shooting a film using digital technology. He said he had to learn the technology for the first three days and said at the end of the third day he was confident of using the digital technology.  

"Machines don't make films. Men make films." said Balu Mahendra on his feelings after having mastered the digital technology. 

The movie was shot in a house that is 250 years old and parts of the movie was shot in Hokenagal. Producer M. Sasikumar has also acted in a scene in the movie. 

Talking about Music Director Ilayaraja, Balu Mahendra said that Ilayaraja is the one who understands and respects the silences in his movie and as always has come up with an amazing musical score for the movie. He also said that Ilaiyaraja's music will always be a part of his movies and that he will never for any reason give away Ilaiyaraja's music.
